Dental Procedures and Surgeries
While a visit to the dentist doctor is not among the list of top 10 things that most people like to do, it is sometimes necessary for good dental oral health. Whether the reason for a visit to a dental surgeon is for cosmetic dental care or traditional dental health care procedures such as dental implants, dental bridges, or dental dentures, dental techniques and dental methods offer a wide range of choices for dental needs.
Denture procedure is useful in replacing missing or damage teeth. These removable dental appliances are common in older people who experience receding gum line and weakened teeth and bone structure as a result of the aging process. Dental dentures can be partial or complete and require the removal of teeth in order to create a dental bridge and complete or partial plate dentures.
A dental bridge is designed to replace one or more teeth that may create a gap between otherwise healthy teeth. Most dental bridges are attached by a cement-like mixture to surrounding teeth on either side of the gap. Anyone who has one or more missing teeth may be a candidate for a dental bridge procedure. There are several different types of dental bridges procedures and determination of which one is right for a patient depends on how many teeth are missing as well as the overall condition of surrounding teeth.
Dental implants are often suggested as an alternative to dental dentures. People who have poor receding gum line ridge detail may benefit from dental implant surgery as well as people who need support for dental crowns and dental bridges.
Root canals are designed to correct issues and disorders that originate in dental pulp, which is the soft tissue inside a tooth that contains blood vessels and nerves. People suffering from infections or abscess teeth with associated nerve damage are most likely to benefit from root canal therapy. In most cases, natural teeth can be saved if diagnosed early.
Cosmetic dentistry is different than traditional general dentistry, in that it provides basically restorative benefits. Traditional cheap dentistry focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral disease, while dental cosmetic dentistry focuses on an improvement in the appearance of a person's teeth.
The most common cosmetic dentistry procedures and cosmetic dental techniques enjoyed today are teeth whitening and tooth bonding. Teeth whitening are an excellent option for people who have stained tooth or discolored teeth caused by smoking, drinking tea or coffee or tea, or as a result of poor oral hygiene. Teeth bonding are the technique through which broken or chipped teeth may be repaired by covering with enamel that is applied to the surface of the tooth known as tooth enamel, which is then shaped and polished.
Orthodontic treatment focus on teeth straightening, aligning tooth and jaw teeth function. Generally, teenagers benefit the most from such Orthodontic treatment at a time when self-image and peer acceptance is very important. Adults who may not have had the opportunity to enjoy such dental orthodontics benefits when they were younger also benefit from orthodontic treatment. Traditional metal wire teeth braces as well as behind-the-teeth options have made orthodontic treatment more popular, regardless of age group.

Both dental surgery and cosmetic dental care procedures help to instill greater self-confidence in those who have suffered from dental imperfections such as whiten yellow teeth, missing teeth, or dental tooth decay. Conditions such as tooth enamel erosion and mouth sores, as well as really bad toothaches that plague many people can be treated and improved through various dental procedures and best dental treatment. What are porcelain veneers? Veneers are thin shells of material that are bonded onto the surface of your teeth. Porcelain is frequently used due to its strength, durability, resistance to staining, ease of color matching and natural appearance. Dental Tourism India , and Doctor, have years of experience with porcelain veneers and can provide you with the highest level of professional veneer capabilities. When are veneers used? Veneers are used in a variety of situations. In all cases the underlying tooth structure is required to be intact, or a crown will be recommended. Veneers are used for cosmetic restoration of teeth that are worn, discolored, chipped or crooked. Veneers can also be used to fill spaces, typically between the front teeth. Veneers can be used on a single tooth, matching the existing color of the other teeth, or they can be used to do a complete makeover giving you the "Hollywood smile" that you have always wanted. What is involved with the veneer procedure? Three appointments are typically needed for the veneer process. In the first appointment the Dental Tourism India staff will discuss with you what your goal is and make recommendations on the best way to achieve your goal. If veneers are determined to be a good choice for you a second appointment will be scheduled. At the second appointment the teeth are prepared for veneer placement. Preparation of the tooth surface will vary depending on the condition of the existing tooth but will always involve removing a thin layer of the natural enamel. Once the tooth surface is prepared, molds are made and then sent to an offsite facility where the veneers are prepared. In typically three weeks time the third appointment will be made to bond the new veneers onto your existing teeth.

What is a dental implant? A dental implant is a metal post, typically made of titanium, that is surgically inserted into the jawbone to serve as an artificial root. Once the dental implant is in place it can serve as a structure from which to affix crowns, partial dentures or full dentures.
When is an implant used? Dental implants are a great way to provide a sound structure to hold crowns and full or partial dentures in place. A dental implant will simulate bone growth thereby keeping your jaw strong and healthy and does not affect the quality of the surrounding teeth. Implants can be used when you desire restorative dentistry that does not affect the surrounding teeth or to provide a more secure denture. What is the procedure for dental implants? Dental implants are done in conjunction with a wonderful periodontist, Dr. Pedro Trejho. Doctor will consult with you and, if it is determined that a dental implant is a good choice, an appointment will be scheduled with Dr. Trejho. If your jawbone is adequate and you have healthy gums, you are an ideal candidate for dental implants. When completed, the dental implant will not limit you in any area of speech or diet and no one will ever know that you have a replacement.
What is a crown? A crown is a complete restoration for the visible portion of the tooth and is sometimes referred to as a "cap". Crowns are typically made from porcelain, the same material used for veneers. Crowns, like veneers, can also be color matched to create a natural appearance once the restoration is complete. Stages for a crown. When is a crown used? Crowns are typically used in restoration when the structure of a tooth has been seriously impacted. Common causes for this loss of structure are advanced decay, fracture and cracks. Crowns are used when fillings are not adequate to restore a tooth to What is the procedure for applying a crown? The first step in applying a crown is to make an impression of the existing tooth. Next the tooth surface is reduced to create a platform on which the crown will be bonded. Once the tooth reduction is done another impression is taken. A temporary crown will be placed on the tooth and the molds will be sent to an offsite facility. The permanent crown will then be made to fit in place of the old tooth surface. When the crown is ready (typically less than 2 weeks) a second appointment with be required for final fitment and bonding of the crown to the reduced tooth.
What is a bridge? A dental bridge is a permanent false tooth which is used to fill in the space left from a missing tooth. When properly done, bridges are comfortable and proven to strengthen teeth. A fixed bridge is held in place by attaching it to crowns on either side. When is a bridge used? Bridges are used when you have permanently lost a tooth. It is important to fill in spaces so that other teeth do not drift out of position. In addition, teeth left next to an open space are more susceptible to decay. Bridges also return your mouth and smile to natural form and function. What is the procedure for bridges? The first step in a bridge is to prepare the teeth on either side of the space for crowns. Then, an impression will be made to serve as the model for the bridge, false tooth and crowns. The impression will be sent to an external lab where the bridgework will be made. A temporary bridge will be applied to protect your teeth and preserve the space. On your second appointment the temporary bridge will be removed and the new bridge will be fitted into final position. Doctor will fit and adjust the bridge so that it gives a natural look and bite. Once the try-in is complete the bridge will be affixed to the prepared teeth with permanent cement.
What is restorative dentistry? Restorative dentistry involves bonding your teeth with a composite resin filling to repair cavities, change shape or change color. Restorative dentistry seeks to repair your natural teeth in order to return your mouth to full functionality and aesthetic balance. When is restorative dentistry used? Doctor uses bonding primarily for restoration of cavities. Bonding materials used at Dental Tourism India are color matched to your teeth to provide a natural appearance Restorative dentistry can also be used to replace old silver amalgam fillings if they are loose or if you desire a more natural looking material. What is the procedure for restorative dentistry? The procedure for tooth restoration involves removing tooth material that may be decayed or discolored to make room for the bonding material. Once the tooth is prepared the bonding material is mixed and color matched to your tooth. The bonding material is then applied to the prepared tooth and cured. Final adjustment of the bonding material is done to insure correct occlusion with other teeth.
ROOT CANAL THERAPY
What is a root canal? The root canal is part of the underlying structure of the tooth. Underneath the enamel of the tooth is the dentin and at the center is the soft pulp. The soft pulp carries the nerves and blood vessels of the tooth. This pulp extends down each root (up to four) through a narrow passage. The area of the root that contains the pulp is known as the root canal.
When is a root canal therapy done? When tooth decay or a fracture exposes the pulp of the tooth, bacteria can infect the pulp. When this happens the tooth will continue to deteriorate until action is taken. If no action is taken the tooth will become progressively more painful and the infection may spread to the jawbone itself. Root canal therapy is done to preserve the tooth itself and protect the surrounding tissue and bone. What is involved in the root canal therapy procedure? The first part of a root canal therapy treatment is to administer a local anesthetic to numb the tooth and the surrounding area. Next the crown of the tooth is opened to access to the pulp chamber. Root canal therapy involves the removal of the pulp from the tooth, disinfection to ward off bacteria and a special filling placed in the root canals themselves. Once the infection is cleaned and the root canals are filled the remainder of the tooth is either filled like a normal cavity or, if there is more severe loss of the tooth structure, a crown may be applied.
What is oral surgery? Oral surgery involves treatments such as the extraction of wisdom teeth, repair of misaligned jaws, and removal tumors and cysts of the jaw and mouth. Oral surgeons also perform dental implant surgery.
Examples of Impacted Wisdom Teeth.
When is oral surgery used? Oral surgery is used for a variety of problems including impacted teeth, implants and jaw related issues. Oral surgery may also be used in the event of facial injury or even birth defects such as a cleft palate. What is the procedure for oral surgery? The procedure for oral surgery can vary greatly based on the extent of the repairs. Oral surgery often requires full sedation. Doctor will perform some oral surgery procedures himself and also works with a respected local oral surgeon for more intensive procedures.
What is Sedation? Sedation involves the use of drugs to lessen the pain or awareness associated with potentially painful dental procedures. Sedation includes medications such as valium, nitrous oxide and IV sedation. Some sedation medications are combined with a local anesthetic to minimize pain. When is sedation used? Sedation is used for the benefit of the patient and can be administered for most procedures. When a particular procedure is known to likely result in pain Doctor will recommend the best medication for you. If you are anxious or fearful of the procedures Doctor will work with you to provide the best level of comfort. Dental procedures do not have to be painful and the Dental Tourism India staff strives to make your dental visits as pain free as possible. What is involved in Sedation? Exact procedures will depend on the sedation method. If there are oral medications involved, these medicines will be taken 1 hour prior to the dental procedure. Oral local anesthetics will also be used to further eliminate pain. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, can also be administered to induce a state of relaxation. Full sedation procedures are only done under the direction of a licensed anesthesiologist.
What is periodontal treatment? Periodontal treatment includes scaling and root planing. Both scaling and root planing are aimed at removing calculus (tartar) from the tooth surfaces. This includes the visible or exposed surface, surfaces below the gum line and root surfaces. Regular periodontal treatment is vital to the health of both your teeth and gums. Root planing is only done in the event of severe calculus buildup and is typically associated with gum disease as well.
When is a periodontal treatment done? Periodontal treatment should be done on a regular basis as part of your regular checkup plan. Regular cleaning, when combined with good oral hygiene, will improve the overall health of your teeth and gums. In the event that regular care has not been done, and the patient does not have good oral hygiene practices, more intense periodontal procedures may be required to return the gums to a healthy state. Left untreated, periodontal disease will result in the loss of bone and eventually your natural teeth. What is involved periodontal treatment? Periodontal treatment involves the use of ultrasonic cleaners, dental instruments and polishers to clean the surface of your teeth. Ultrasonic cleaners use high frequency vibration to remove calculus quickly and easily. Dental instruments can be used for final scaling or for particularly difficult buildup. Once the tooth surfaces are free of calculus your teeth will be polished to achieve a smooth surface and make your teeth feel their best. Combined with good daily oral hygiene, periodontal treatment is the best way to keep all of your natural teeth and make your smile look its best.
Perio Protect Method
The Perio Protect Method offers an additional technique designed to help you manage oral bacteria on a daily basis. Using a custom-formed prescription tray, doctor-prescribed medication can be placed into the periodontal pocket. The tray is designed to prevent medication from being quickly washed away. Your dentist will prescribe the best medication for your condition as well as individualized treatment instructions. For most people following the Perio Protect Method treatment requires just minutes each day. For more details and patient testimonials please visit their website as www.perioprotect.com.
